Production Index Chart

The production index has proved useful as an indicator of the ups and downs of the national and state economies. It is significantly correlated with several independently reported measures of the economy, including the Texas Industrial Production Index, Texas payroll employment, Texas gross domestic product and U.S. Industrial Production Index.
The Texas Manufacturing Outlook Survey for any given month is available about three weeks earlier than any of these important indicators and provides insight into changes in the state economy as well as national manufacturing trends.
