About the Speakers
Bettye J. Banks
Senior Vice President for Education
Consumer Credit Counseling Service
of Greater Dallas
Banks has nearly 30 years of experience with CCCS of Greater Dallas and has been senior vice president for education since 1998. She is a certified financial counseling executive and a certified consumer credit counselor. Banks has logged more than 25,000 counseling hours and facilitated over 3,000 seminars, presentations and workshops on money management, credit and related topics. She is a published author of several consumer finance-oriented workbooks and regularly writes feature articles for various local and state publications, including Today's Dallas Woman, Dallas Family and Dallas Child. Often quoted by both print and broadcast media, Banks frequently appears as a money management and credit expert. Banks holds a B.A. degree from Dallas Baptist University.
Rebecca Brune
Director of Family Self-Sufficiency
United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County
Brune oversees the implementation of a community-based
financial literacy education campaign and development
of a local individual development account (IDA)
savings match network. She also works in partnership
with the San Antonio Coalition for Family Economic
Progress to implement the earned income tax credit
outreach campaign/volunteer income tax assistance
program. Prior to joining United Way, she worked for
the City of San Antonio's department of community
initiatives. Brune is a trained and certified facilitator
and has provided technical assistance to and facilitated
workshops for IDA and community stakeholders in
South Texas, Chicago and Georgia. She has spent time
in Nicaragua, India and Bangladesh researching the
design and implementation of sustainable development
and microlending programs. Brune is a recent graduate
of the Progressive Leadership and Advocacy Network
for Women at the National Women's Law Center. She
received a bachelor's degree from the University of
Incarnate Word and an M.P.A. from the Maxwell School
of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University.
Shay Iacoponelli
Senior Vice President
TrustTexas Bank
Iacoponelli has been with TrustTexas Bank since 2003.
Her responsibilities involve marketing, development
and training for the bank. She is also the Community
Reinvestment Act compliance officer. Iacoponelli has
eight years' experience in information technology. For
three years prior to joining TrustTexas Bank, she was
president of SBI Solutions, a technology and training
consulting business she started in rural South Texas.
Having worked for a variety of companies, Iacoponelli has
an extensive background in corporate sales, training and
education. She holds a B.A. from Texas A&M University
and an M.L.A. from Houston Baptist University.
Rachel B. Peña
Senior Public Affairs Representative
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas
San Antonio Branch
Peña has been with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas,
San Antonio Branch, since 1980. During her tenure, she
has served in various capacities including administration,
customer support, cash, payments, research and
public affairs. In her current position, she coordinates
conferences and special events, assists in the promotion
of economic education, and manages the Bank's tour program
and economic education library. Peña is involved in
the community, serving in such roles as treasurer for
the Floresville Independent School District Board of
Trustees, mentor at Robert B. Green Elementary, and
board member for Consolata Healthcare Foundation.
She holds a B.B.A. from Wayland Baptist University.
Don Raschke
Former Deputy Securities Commissioner
TexasState Securities Board
Raschke retired from the Texas State Securities Board (TSSB) in March 2007 after 25 years of state service. This summer, he returned on a temporary basis to work with TSSB's investor education program. Raschke began his career with TSSB as an analyst in the securities registration division. He was assistant director of the dealer registration division and chief financial officer before becoming deputy commissioner in 2003. He served on numerous committees and project groups with the North American Securities Administrators Association and for several years was a committee chair in the investor education section. He was also active in the Texas State Agency Business Administrators' Association (TSABAA) and served as the association's president in 2003. Raschke was chosen Administrator of the Year by TSABAA in 2006. Prior to joining TSSB, he worked for five years as a registered representative for A.G. Edwards and Sons, Inc. He holds a B.B.A. and an M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin.
Timothy L. Shaunty
President
Texas Council on Economic Education
Shaunty served as director of the Center for Economic Education at the University of Houston–Clear Lake before becoming president of the Houston-based Texas Council on Economic Education in 2001. During a 30- year career in higher education, he held a variety of positions, including research economist and director of governmental relations. After retirement, he taught government and economics in the public school system. Shaunty has earned multiple degrees in agricultural economics, sociology, business administration and architecture.
Princeton Williams
Senior Economic Education Specialist
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas
Williams joined the Dallas Fed in 2006. Previously, he
taught economics, advanced-placement macroeconomics
and AP microeconomics at R. L. Paschal High School
in Fort Worth. Williams was selected as the lead teacher
for AP economics for the Fort Worth Independent School
District. As part of his district academic responsibilities,
he mentored new economics teachers, conducted
citywide review sessions for AP students, coauthored the
district's economics curriculum and facilitated professional
development activities. Williams interned in the
economic and market analysis division of the Department
of Housing and Urban Development during his graduate
studies. He received a B.B.A. from Southern Methodist
University and an M.A. in economics from the University
of Texas at Arlington.
