2009 ESP Conference
Economics Scholars Program for Undergraduate Research
March 27, 2009
What is the Economics Scholars Program Conference?
The ESP Conference is a one-day undergraduate economics research conference cosponsored by Austin College and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. The event provides students the opportunity to share and gain feedback on their original research. It not only provides a forum for students already doing research, but also aims to inspire others to create and pursue their own research agenda.
Who Should Attend?
Undergraduate students at all levels who have an interest in economics, as well as faculty members, especially faculty research sponsors, are encouraged to attend.
The conference is modeled after professional economics conferences. Students are involved as:
- Members of the Peer Review Board
- Presenters of their own (or coauthored) original research
- Discussants
- Session chairs
- Audience
Criteria for Participation
Peer Review Board: Preference will be given to discussants and presenters from previous ESP conferences as well as students who are already members of the national economics honors society, Omicron Delta Epsilon. Peer Review Board members meet periodically via teleconference to review submissions and are encouraged to attend the conference.
Session Chairs: Undergraduate students classified as a sophomore or higher who are interested in conducting research are encouraged to apply to be session chairs.
Discussants: Preference will be given to students who have completed coursework in econometrics or other empirical fields as well as coursework through intermediate microeconomics and intermediate macroeconomics.
Presenters: Undergraduates who are conducting independent original research in all fields of economics are encouraged to submit a paper for consideration. Papers can be empirical, theoretical or analytical in nature.
All papers submitted will be reviewed by the ESP Peer Review Board and accepted based on the selection criteria detailed on the ESP website (www.austincollege.edu/ESP ).
