An Eye on the World Economy
November 19, 2003
Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas
Why do some nations have expanding economies
while others struggle?
“An Eye on the World Economy”
will examine this and other international economic issues
from a policy perspective.
Among the speakers will be special guest
William Easterly, New York University economics professor
and author of The Elusive Quest for Growth: Economists’
Adventures and Misadventures in the Tropics. In his book,
Easterly looks at the economic policies that separate wealthy
nations from poor ones.
Robert D. McTeer, Jr., president and
CEO of the Dallas Fed, will examine the current state of the
U.S. economy. Additional speakers will discuss the following
questions:
- Why is Ireland such an economic success while Latin America
seems to be languishing?
- What are the new developments in the Asian economies?
- How are trade and immigration issues affecting world economies?
- How much can the U.S. economy expect to rally and why?
- Does the rest of the world really affect U.S. growth?
- What does outsourcing signify for the U.S. economy?
Presentations are designed to benefit
faculty members in various academic areas, including economics,
finance, business, public policy, political science and education.
