| Energy
Issues and the U.S. Economy
Do rising oil and
natural gas prices threaten the U.S. economic
recovery? How has the U.S. economy responded
to higher energy prices in the past? Can
we learn from past experiences?
Evening at the
Fed will address such questions and
offer ideas for using energy issues as a
means of preparing students for the Fed
Challenge competition as well as bringing
basic economic concepts to the classroom. |

The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas
will host a series of dinner meetings in October for
high school teachers. Evening at the Fed is
designed to help you bring information to your students
on a very timely and important issue—energy. The
meetings will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Bank's
Dallas office and its branches in El Paso, Houston and
San Antonio.
The dinner meetings will feature
an energy economist speaking on recent developments
in energy markets and their effects on the U.S. and
Texas economies. Ideas for classroom activities will
be included. The evenings will conclude with information
about the Federal Reserve System's academic competition,
Fed Challenge, and how to start a team.
Scheduled speakers are Stephen
P.A. Brown, director of energy economics and microeconomic
policy analysis, and Mine K. Yücel, vice president
and head of regional research at the Dallas Fed. Join
us for dinner and discussion at a location convenient
