World in Transition
A Two-Day Workshop for High School
Faculty
Hosted by the World Affairs Council of Greater Dallas
and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas
August 2–3, 2005
Understanding international issues
is essential for competing in a global economy. The
challenge for educators is preparing students for our
increasingly interdependent world. This two-day workshop
will address that challenge.
Teachers will be trained in using
educational materials called The World in Transition,
a series of videotapes and blackline masters examining
the major regions of the world from five different perspectives:
economic, political, cultural, geographic and environmental.
The materials have been correlated to the Texas Essential
Knowledge and Skills for Social Studies.
These materials, developed by
the Southern Center for International Studies in Atlanta,
are in use by more than 6,000 teachers in 38 states
and have been selected by the College Board for inclusion
on its list of recommended materials for advanced placement
courses in high schools.
Bonus: Participants
will receive, at no cost, seven videos and accompanying
materials on East Asia; Latin America; Europe in
Transition; The End of the Soviet Union; Russia and
the Other Former Soviet Republics; The Middle East and
Africa.
Credit:
Participants will receive 14 hours of professional development
credit.
