Dallas Fed promotes Alan Viard to research officer

Alan D. Viard has been promoted to research officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. A senior economist at the Bank, he conducts research in public finance and macroeconomics.

Viard recently returned to the Bank following a one-year leave of absence as a senior economist at the President’s Council of Economic Advisers.

Before joining the Dallas Fed, he was an assistant professor of economics at Ohio State University. He also was a staff economist at the Joint Committee on Taxation of the U.S. Congress in 1992–93 and a visiting foreign scholar at Osaka University in Japan in 1995.

Viard has authored more than a dozen articles in professional journals and Federal Reserve publications.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Yale University and a Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University.
