Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas announces John Buchanan as new general counsel

DALLAS—The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas has appointed John D. Buchanan as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary to the Bank's board of directors.

Buchanan has more than 20 years of experience as a banking attorney. Previously, Buchanan served as senior executive vice president at Regions Financial Corporation (NYSE: RF). He also previously held positions as general counsel and corporate secretary for Regions, AmSouth Bancorporation and SouthTrust Bank in Birmingham, Ala.

Buchanan has served on numerous banking committees and boards, including the Financial Services Roundtable Lawyers Council and the American Bar Association Banking Committee. Buchanan also served on the board of directors for Mercedes Benz US International.

Prior to his legal and banking career, Buchanan served as a military helicopter pilot and commissioned officer for the U.S. Army, becoming paratrooper qualified and serving as a flight division commander.

He holds a master's degree of law in taxation from New York University School of Law and a doctorate of law from Vanderbilt University School of Law. He also earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Washington & Lee University.
