Dallas Fed's Building Wealth mobile app puts financial education in the hands of consumers

For immediate release: December 6, 2012

DALLAS—The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas today announced the release of a mobile app for its popular financial education resource, Building Wealth: A Beginner’s Guide to Securing Your Financial Future.

The app is available as a free download in the app stores for Android, Apple and BlackBerry smartphones and tablets, and is aimed at consumers, educators, students, nonprofit organizations and credit counselors.

“With more people than ever before getting their information from smartphones, mobile is the new web,” said Alfreda Norman, Dallas Fed vice president and community development officer. “This app helps us put financial education into the hands of more consumers.”

The app features mobile-friendly chapters, including audio narrations, from Building Wealth. Topics include budgeting, saving, investing, building credit, controlling debt and protecting wealth.

Interactive tools allow users to figure their net worth, set financial goals, see the impact of spending changes and shop for credit.

The “Wealth IQ” game lets users test their wealth knowledge and challenge their friends by sharing their scores on Facebook, Twitter or email.

Since its debut in 2000, tens of thousands of hard copies of Building Wealth have been shipped throughout the country every year. In addition, it is the Bank's single most popular Internet feature, downloaded from the web site hundreds of thousands of times each year. All Building Wealth materials are available to the consumer at no charge.
