For immediate release: January 24, 2014
DALLAS—Texas added 21,400 jobs in December, according to seasonally adjusted and benchmarked payroll employment numbers released today by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.
In 2013, Texas added 267,000 jobs. The state added 16,100 jobs in November.
Unemployment rates fell in nine major Texas metro areas in December, according to seasonally adjusted numbers from the Dallas Fed. Brownsville-Harlingen saw the largest decline in unemployment rate, falling from 10.1 percent in November to 9.8 percent in December.
The Dallas Fed improves the Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) payroll employment estimates for Texas by incorporating preliminary benchmarks into the data in a more timely manner and by using a two-step seasonal adjustment technique.
