El Paso Money Smart Week kickoff event to promote personal finance education

For immediate release: April 3, 2014

EL PASO, TEXAS—The El Paso Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and its partner organizations will host a Saturday kickoff for Money Smart Week El Paso, featuring a series of events designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances.

The kickoff will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 5 at Cielo Vista Mall, on the lower level near Dillard’s.

Money Smart Week El Paso, a collaborative effort with local nonprofits and financial institutions, is designed to educate consumers about money management and create awareness of financial education programs on topics such as budgeting, saving and using credit wisely.

The kickoff event will feature giveaways and fun personal finance activities, including a scavenger hunt and prize wheel. The winners of a middle-school essay and art contest, with entries from more than 180 students in the El Paso County area, will be announced at the event. The art pieces use shredded money to illustrate concepts tied to the student essays.

Money Smart Week El Paso runs April 5–12. More information on the events, including personal finance classes in English and Spanish, is available on the Money Smart Week El Paso website and on Facebook.
