Dallas Fed: Texas adds 23,100 jobs in June; unemployment rates fall in seven major metro areas

DALLAS—Texas added 23,100 jobs in June, according to seasonally adjusted and benchmarked payroll employment numbers released today by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

Year to date, the state has added 196,650 jobs. The state added 44,100 jobs in May.

In 2014, jobs in Texas have grown at an annualized rate of 3.5 percent. Jobs in Texas grew at a rate of 2.5 percent in 2013.

Unemployment rates fell in seven of nine major Texas metro areas in June, according to seasonally adjusted numbers from the Dallas Fed. The largest declines in unemployment rates were seen in the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos (4.3 percent in May to 4.1 percent in June), El Paso (7.3 percent in May to 7.1 percent in June) and San Antonio-New Braunfels (4.9 percent in May to 4.7 percent in June) metro areas.

Unemployment rates in the Laredo (5.7 percent) and McAllen-Edinburg-Mission (9.1 percent) metro areas remained unchanged in June.

The Dallas Fed improves the Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) payroll employment estimates for Texas by incorporating preliminary benchmarks into the data in a more timely manner and by using a two-step seasonal adjustment technique. Texas metropolitan area unemployment rates from the BLS also are seasonally adjusted by the Dallas Fed.

The Dallas Fed also offers seasonally adjusted employment data by industry at the state and metro levels for Texas.
