For immediate release: October 20, 2014

The future outlook of the far West Texas economy is the focus of a free conference in Alpine sponsored by the El Paso Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas in partnership with the Department of Animal Science and the Department of Industrial Technology at Sul Ross State University.

“What Is in Store for the Big Bend Region? An Economic Outlook” will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at Sul Ross State University, Espino Conference Center, East Highway 90, Alpine.

Participants can register online to attend the event. The registration deadline is Oct. 22, and admission is free.
“The economy’s recovery from the recent recession has been slow and uneven,” said Roberto Coronado,

assistant vice president in charge of the El Paso Branch. “We have a great lineup of speakers who will provide insight about where the recovery is headed in the coming months and what’s in store for the economy in the Big Bend region.”

Conference sessions will explore economic issues impacting the Big Bend region, including Mexico’s economy, Texas water availability, energy markets and current agricultural conditions in West Texas. Other sessions will focus on important national economic topics, including the housing market and Federal Reserve monetary policy.

Speakers will include Mark Wynne, Roberto Coronado, Keith Phillips, Anthony Murphy and Michael Plante of the Dallas Fed; Robert McKnight of McKnight Ranch Company; and Logan Boswell of the Texas Agrilife Extension Service.

Additional information about the conference, including a complete list of confirmed speakers, can be found on the Dallas Fed’s website.
