For immediate release: November 10, 2014

DALLAS—The public is invited to learn about the fascinating history of U.S. currency at a free open house on Nov. 16 commemorating the centennial of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

The Dallas Fed opened for business on Nov. 16, 1914.

The Centennial Open House will be 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Dallas Fed’s Economy in Action exhibit, 2200 N. Pearl St.

Dallas Fed staff will showcase the Bank’s wide-ranging historical currency collection and educate guests on the security features in modern U.S. currency, including advanced security features in the $100 bill. Historical money on display will range from the U.S. colonies to present day.

The Economy in Action exhibit explains the Federal Reserve, money and the economy through interactive and multimedia displays.

Visitors also will be able to explore An Argument For Dallas, a temporary exhibit on the extraordinary efforts of Dallas citizens to secure a Reserve Bank for the city.

For more information on the Economy in Action exhibit, see the Dallas Fed’s website. Starting Nov. 17, the exhibit will have new hours: Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
