Your World Economics: Economic Summit
June 18–19, 2013 Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas
This flagship two-day conference for secondary educators will give you tools to help your students find economics in the world around them. It will feature guest speakers Dirk Mateer and Anne Macy, along with speakers from the Fed.
Economics is more than a subject in the classroom. Headline stories have an economic angle. Movies and novels are waiting to be explored. From stadium deals to contracts, sports can make economic decisionmaking an everyday topic. Gain new insights and take back classroom-ready ideas that will make these topics come to life for your classes.
The Dallas Fed is pleased to welcome Dirk Mateer, author of Economics in the Movies and senior lecturer and codirector of undergraduate studies at Penn State University. Winner of the George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2011, Mateer has developed extensive classroom resources that explore economic themes in movies and music.
Also back by popular demand is Anne Macy, Gene Edwards Professor of Finance at West Texas A&M University. Macy’s talent for presenting information in exciting and relevant ways has distinguished her in the realm of economic education, resulting in many teaching awards.
