William SerrataWilliam Serrata joined the El Paso Branch board in 2018.

He has served as president of El Paso County Community College District since August 2012.

Serrata serves on the boards of Workforce Solutions Borderplex, Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce and on the Hospitals of Providence Combined Board. He also serves as board chair of the El Paso Collaborative for Academic Excellence.

Serrata serves as vice-chair of the Texas Association of Community Colleges (TACC), and as chair of the TACC Legislative Committee, the TACC Texas Success Center Advisory Committee and the Texas Student Success Council convened by Educate Texas.

On the national level, Serrata serves as board chair of the American Association of Community Colleges, board chair of Excelencia in Education and as an advisory board member of the Higher Education Research & Development Institute.

Serrata previously served on the National Student Clearing House Advisory Council and was a member of the 2015 class of Aspen Institute Ascend Fellows.  In 2019, he was selected as the Western Region Chief Executive of the Year by the Association of Community College Trustees, and subsequently received the Marie Y. Martin Chief Executive Officer Award during the national conference.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University, master’s degree from University of Texas at Brownsville and Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.
