Nathan Sheets

Nathan Sheets is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Academic Advisory Council.

Sheets has been global chief economist at Citigroup since October 2021. Previously, he was with the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C., for 18 years. During his tenure, he served in a variety of roles, including director of the Division of International Finance and as an economist to the Federal Open Market Committee. Sheets acted as the Fed chair's international adviser at the onset of the European fiscal crisis in 2010. While on leave from the Fed, he worked at the International Monetary Fund as senior adviser to the U.S. executive director from 2006 to 2007. He served as Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs from 2014 to 2017.

Sheets holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Brigham Young University and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
