Stephen HansenStephen Hansen is a research affiliate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

He is also a professor of economics at University College London and a fellow of the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the Centre for Economic Policy Research. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Monetary Economics.

Before joining UCL he held positions at Imperial College London, the University of Oxford and Pompeu Fabra University. He has collaborated with policy institutions including the Bank of England, European Stability Mechanism and Inter-American Development Bank.

His research develops methods for measuring economic phenomena from text and other unstructured, high-dimensional data, with applications to monetary policy and firm behavior. This work has appeared in the Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Political Economy, Review of Economic Studies and Journal of Monetary Economics, and has been supported by European Research Council Consolidator and Proof-of-Concept Grants.

He maintains a GitHub page with code and lecture slides on methods for unstructured and high-dimensional data and co-organizes the monthly AMLEDS webinar on economic applications of machine learning.

He received his PhD from the London School of Economics in 2009.
