Yaira VelezYaira Velez serves as an assistant vice president in Banking Supervision at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. She leads the consumer affairs team, which contributes to a safe and sound banking industry by supervising for compliance with consumer protection laws and regulations and fostering economic inclusion and community investment.

Before joining the Dallas Fed in 2021, Velez worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, where she earned her examiner commission. Prior to joining the Federal Reserve System, she served as the compliance officer for a $730 million bank in Puerto Rico and as a risk management specialist for regional consulting firms, Grant Thornton, LP and Sheshunoff Management Services.

Velez holds a bachelor’s in business administration in accounting and finance from the University of Puerto Rico. She also completed the Graduate School of Banking Program at the University of Colorado, and holds the professional certifications of Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Community Bank Compliance Officer.
