Jan Mills serves as president and chairman of First National Bank of Winnsboro, a $160 million community bank founded in 1893 in rural northeast Texas.
She began her banking career over four decades ago at First National as a part-time receptionist and bookkeeper during summer and school breaks. She worked throughout the organization before rising to president in 2003 and chairman in 2006. Additionally, she serves as secretary-treasurer of the bank’s holding company, Etex Banco Inc.
Throughout her career, Mills has advocated for community banking and been involved in numerous financial organizations, including serving as chairman of the Texas Bankers Association. She currently serves on TBA’s board and executive committee; the board of trustees for Southern Methodist University’s SW Graduate School of Banking; and the advisory board for East Texas A&M University’s banking program.
Additionally, she is involved in community and civic endeavors in Winnsboro and was honored as the town’s 2017 Woman of the Year. In 2022, Bank News magazine named her as one of its Outstanding Women in Banking honorees.
Mills graduated with honors with a BBA from Southern Methodist University and graduated with distinction in leadership from SMU’s SW Graduate School of Banking.
