Fabien Postel-Vinay

Fabien Postel-Vinay is a research affiliate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

He is also a research professor of economics at Southern Methodist University and a research director at the Institute for Fiscal Studies in London.

Prior to joining SMU, he was a professor of economics at University College London, where he served as head of the economics department from 2023 to 2026. Before joining UCL in 2013, Postel-Vinay held academic positions at the University of Bristol, Sciences Po Paris, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique and the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique.

His research focuses primarily on labor economics. He is widely recognized for his structural modeling of labor markets, particularly regarding worker mobility and wage dispersion over the business cycle.

In recognition of his contributions to the field, Postel-Vinay was awarded the Frisch Medal by the Econometric Society in 2006, alongside Jean-Marc Robin. He was elected a Fellow of the Econometric Society in 2018.

He completed his undergraduate studies at École Polytechnique in Paris before earning his PhD in economics from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne in 1998.
