El Paso economic activity expanded modestly in 2016. The metro area created jobs at a 2.5 percent pace, outperforming both the state and nation. Solid growth in El Paso is partially attributed to strong gains in maquiladora activity in Ciudad Juárez. Trade inched up for the second consecutive year.
