About Agustín Carstens
Agustín Carstens is a distinguished Mexican economist and central banking leader who most recently served as general manager of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) for eight years, overseeing the coordination of central banks worldwide. Prior to that, he served as governor of the Bank of Mexico, when he chaired key BIS committees and the International Monetary Fund's policy advisory committee. Earlier in his career, Carstens served as Mexico's finance minister and deputy finance minister, guiding the country through the global financial crisis. He also held senior positions at the IMF, serving as both deputy managing director and executive director. He began his professional career at the Bank of Mexico, where he worked for nearly two decades. His exceptional contributions to global financial policy span four decades and have been recognized with prestigious honors including the IIF Distinguished Leadership Award and the Rey de España Economics Prize, awarded to the most distinguished economist in Spain and Latin America. Carstens holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Chicago. He currently serves on the board of directors of UBS Group AG and holds advisory positions with several prominent international financial organizations including the Group of 30, the Bretton Woods Committee, the Global Finance & Technology Network and the Visa Economic Empowerment Institute.
