Texas Business Outlook Surveys

The Dallas Fed conducts monthly surveys of over 300 Texas businesses in the manufacturing and service sectors. The information collected is a valuable component of regional economic analysis and serves as input for monetary policy deliberations on the Federal Open Market Committee. Business executives responding to the survey are asked whether their firm's business activity has increased, decreased or remained unchanged when compared with the prior month. Responses are aggregated into balance indexes where positive values generally indicate growth while negative values generally indicate contraction.
