Leadership of the Center for Energy and the Economy
The director of the Center is Lutz Kilian. Kilian is vice president and head of the energy group in the Dallas Fed Research Department. He is a globally recognized expert on macroeconomics, oil markets and global geopolitics and the most widely cited energy economist in the world according to the Research Papers in Economics database. His expertise is complemented by that of Reid Taylor, Maria Garcia-Osipenko and Michael Plante. Research Economist Reid Taylor is an energy and environmental economist with research interests in insurance and transportation markets. Research Economist Maria Garcia-Osipenko is an energy and environmental economist whose research focuses on the clean energy transition, electricity rate design and transportation markets. Assistant Vice President Michael Plante is an energy economist and macroeconomist whose interests also include battery technology and electric vehicles. In addition, David Rapson and Owen Kay are external research affiliates of the Center. Rapson is a leading expert on the energy transition. As a professor in the economics department of the University of California at Davis, he specializes in electricity markets, electric vehicles and the effects of the energy transition on the economy. Kay is an assistant professor in the economics department at Williams College working on the design of optimal energy policies in global markets and the role of transmission in wholesale electricity markets.
